COVID situations in all over the world and particularly in India so the authorities rather than cancelling it, shifted the venue to UAE, but it lost its charm due to the absence of crowd. But now after two long years for the fans, the stadiums are going full since the start of the season showing the limitless love of people for the cricket.
The tournament is scheduled from 26 March to 29 May 2022. In this duration, a total of 74 matches will be played in only two cities i.e. Mumbai and Pune. Three stadiums dedicated for the season include Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, MCA stadium and DY Patil Stadium. But these can be replaced in later stages of the playoff. And the stage is about to come now as most of the teams have played their maximum matches. And positions of the final four are also almost decided as per their performances in the 9 or 10 matches they have played and it will hardly change now except any team perform out of the way and replaces any of the top teams or some good performers may get out of form.
The 8 teams of the last year are added with two new ones i.e. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujrat Titans and making it a total of 10. Both the new teams have performed outstandingly in their debut season and have credited themselves among the top 4 till now. Gujrat Titans is leading the points table and Lucknow Super Giants is at no 3. The rankings of the teams as per their latest performances are given below.

Qualifying rule of playoff matches of IPL 2022
During playoff matches, the qualifying rule is:
Match 1: Winner of team 1st and 2nd position in the points table.
Match 2: Loser of team ranked 3rd and 4th will be out of the tournament
Match 3: Loser of match 1 and winner of match 2.
Match 4: Final will be the inner of match 1 and the winner of match 3.
