Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sacks the Selection Committee after 10 wicket defeat from England
After India’s embarrassing T20 World Cup 2022 defeat, the cricket board of India has fired its entire selection committee. It was led by former fast bowler Chetan Sharma and put out a call for new members to fill the gap.
Last week England’s 10-wicket defeat to the Indian team in the semi-final at Adelaide Oval created a wave of anger in the Indian nation. This was the same team that last won a global title at the 2013 Champions Trophy. This had to do some fresh soul-searching now for the world competitions.
This humiliating dismissal shocked India’s cricket devoted nation. It then sparked outcries from commentators along with the general public.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India took a significant step on Friday evening when it issued a statement inviting new applications to fill all five positions on its selection panel. A major reorganization had been in line since the day after that defeat.
Roger Binny was appointed head of the Indian board around a month ago to replace former captain Sourav Ganguly. He was forced to leave amid political unrest on the board.
After England’s defeat, there were also reports that the Indian T20 team will undergo a significant overhaul. The prominent senior players like Rohit Sharma, Kohli and Ashwin gradually and slowly dropped out of the team.
Indian team is being led by Rohit Sharma in all three game formats.
According to recent reports, the new selection panel would be tasked with selecting separate captains for each format of cricket. This concept of split captaincy may be the adopted approach in which BCCI will go after its exit form ICC trophy.
Hardik Pandya is considered as favorite to lead the Indian T20 team in the shortest format. He is currently the captain of the team in a three-match T20 series against New Zealand as well.
He also led Gujarat Titans to their first Indian Premier League title start of this year.
Let’s see where this war ends. And who becomes the captain of different formats. Do we able to see big names like Kohli and Sharma in the upcoming days or is this the full stop in their short-format cricket? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
