SA cancelled ODI Series with AUS, Reason and Effect
South Africa cancelled their ODI series with Austria scheduled in January next year. The matches were scheduled on 12th January in Hobart, 14th in Sydney and 17th in Perth. Whereas, three-match Test Series will go as planned in December 2022.
To avoid cancellation, CSA requested CA to reschedule the ODI series. Three matches were to be played after the Test Series. It could not be accommodated by the Kangaroos as already delayed pending fixtures due to the Pandemic.
BETJEE has prepared an article to throw light on the reason and effects that this will cause.
Reasons
The decision came out as of the announcement New T20 League in South Africa. The first edition of the event will start in January 2023 with six teams on board.
CSA announced the launch of its own Franchise based T20 league. The event was marked to be played after the South African tour to Aus. But later, CSA requested Australia to reschedule the series as they wanted to make this new edition happen in January. CA refused for the reason of the crowded calendar of the team.
As a result, CSA withdrew from the ODI series. The host will get the series with 3-0 without a single ball played.
Effects
Points on World Cup Super League Table
As South Africa themselves withdrew from the series, Australia will be rewarded with the due points in the World Cup Super League for the three matches with the approval of ICC. This will make Australia closer to direct qualification for the event.
At the same time, South Africa losing the series 3-0 will lead lose the opportunity to fight for direct qualification in the event. The Proteas are currently positioned at No.11 in the points table of the Super League. They have won just 4 matches out of 13 played.
The direct qualification cut-off date is May 2023. Top eight teams till then will qualify directly for the tournament. Next five teams will compete with five Associate teams to get the next two spots.
Participation of Aus players in BBL
The other effect due to canceling of this is, that Aus top white ball players like Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa, will be available now for BBL, which were missing the event previously because of this January series. It will obviously be a big boost to the event. The fixture of the event will be released on 14 July.
Change of Venues of Fixtures
Keeping in view all the scenario and for the sake of even distribution of matches for the cricket fans, CA has made some changes in the venues of other fixtures. the detail is as:
